It is a sad fact of life that sometimes, as we get older, we cannot manage to deal with our financial or social affairs as we once did.
If you find yourself in this position or suspect that you may be approaching this time, a Lasting Power of Attorney will allow you to appoint someone to deal with these matters for you.
This would normally be a member of your family but it does not have to be.
Once the Power is signed and registered at the Court of Protection you do not need to use it until you wish to do so. You can also insert restrictions in the Power if there are certain matters over which you wish to keep control and you can revoke the Lasting Power of Attorney at any time.
When someone is elderly this is often an invaluable tool to assist them and their family, on a daily basis.
